The Crew

Ian H. Pienik

Ian is a Special Forces officer currently serving at U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). After nearly 27 years of distinguished service, he will retire in May 2026. Ian lives in Largo, Florida with his wife and three children. Passionate about mental health advocacy, he is committed to raising awareness about suicide within the Special Operations and Veteran communities — an effort he is championing by rowing across the Pacific Ocean in the Worlds Toughest Row in June 2026 with his team FOAR THE BRAVE.

John Pallasch

John lives in Aiken, South Carolina, with his partner of nearly 15 years, Sarah. Together, they share their home with a lively family of five horses, a miniature donkey, and seven rescue dogs. For the past 25 years, John has dedicated his career to public service, working alongside four Governors, two Presidents, and the Mayor of Washington, D.C. Long before teaming up with Joe Leach in 1994, John held deep respect and admiration for the men and women of our armed forces. Today, he is proud to honor that commitment by helping raise awareness and resources in support of them.

Joe Leach

Joe is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with 26 years of service in the U.S. Army, including time with the 75th Ranger Regiment and Special Forces. Originally from Warrenton, Missouri, he now lives in Apex, North Carolina. After rowing the Atlantic in 2023 with Fight Oar Die, Joe joins FOAR THE BRAVE to take on the Pacific and continue raising awareness for veteran mental health.
